What counts as illegal discrimination at work?

W

California law makes it illegal for employers to fire, pay less, not hire, demote, or reprimand you because of your membership in a protected class or because you stood up against unlawful discrimination at work. Protected classes include your race, religion, skin color, national origin, family background, physical or mental disabilities, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions), gender identity or expression, age (if you’re over 40), sexual orientation, and military or veteran status. If you’re targeted at work for any of these reasons, it counts as illegal discrimination.
